He married Mary Burness, daughter of David Burness and Katharine Milne, on 5 July 1814 in Kintore, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He died on 13 January 1871 in 4 King Street, Woodside, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was buried in St Nicholas Kirkyard, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
