Charlotte Rae was born circa 1816 in Kinneff, Kincardineshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of John Rae and Charlotte Arbuthnott. She married George Burness, son of William Burness and Helen Rodger, on 10 December 1836 in Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire, Scotland. She died on 14 November 1887 in Kirkhill, Cults, Banchory-Devenick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
