He married Margaret Ann Burness, daughter of Alexander Burness and Mary Ann Simpson, on 27 June 1900 in Rose's Temperance Hotel, Banff, Banffshire, Scotland. He died on 14 November 1918 in Easterton, Glenlivet, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 72.
