He married Christian Gordon, daughter of John Gordon and Janet Marshall, on 20 June 1863 in Port Elphinstone, Kintore, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He died on 11 September 1924 in Crossroads, Grange, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 92. He was buried in Banchory, Kincardineshire, Scotland.
