     John Burness was baptized on 2 June 1854 in Tillyfruskie, Birse, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was the son of John Burness and Christian Robbie. He married Annie Smith McIntosh, daughter of Duncan McIntosh and Catherine Smith, on 5 June 1891 in 75 Abbotsford Place, Glasgow, Scotland. He died on 2 May 1913 in Howford Bridge, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, at age 58.
