Mary Jane Hatton was born circa 1834 in Warwickshire, England. She was the daughter of John Hatton. She married Adam Burnes, son of Adam Burnes and Horatia Gordon, on 14 January 1858 in Wellington, New Zealand. She died on 29 July 1884 in Murphy Street, Wellington, New Zealand.
