Obituary: LaFayette Scott passed away Tuesday night, July 23, at ten o'clock. It seems hard to believe that he is gone and that the voice so familiar is stilled in death. He was born at Rockford, Ill., December 5, 1839, where he lived till '63 when he came to McIntire. In 1866 he was married to Melissa Cuddy. The following year they removed to their farm on the prairie eight miles north east of Riceville where they lived until last fall when they removed to their home on the county line, two miles north of town. There remains behind to remember him a wife, one daughter, Mrs. F. McInroy, two sons, Charley and Andrew, all living around here, four sisters, Mrs H. Holmes, of Riceville, Mrs Bradley and Mrs. Brown, of McIntire, Mrs Allen, of Watertown, S.D., and two brothers Hiram and Theodore living near Brainard, Minn. One by one the old landmarks are passing away. The sturdy old oak that has withstood the tempest of more than three score years and one is at last laid low. Mr Scott was a good neighbor and will be remembered long by his many friends. (Riceville Recorder.)2
